ROGER FEDERER NEWS

October 10, 2019 -- Shanghai, China

Roger's Round of 16 match against David Goffin was not the easiest. The Swiss star had to save 5 set points to battle back in the first set, eventually taking it in a tiebreaker. While the second set was still close, Roger remained in control locking up the win 7-6 (7), 6-4.

"I never really felt like I had the upper hand over David today. I thought he did a really good job. He was so much better than at the US Open," said Roger.

He will face Alexander Zverev in the Quarterfinals.
October 8, 2019 -- Shanghai, China

Roger began play at the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai today against Spain's Albert Ramos Viñolas.

He started the match strong and broke twice to take a solid lead but Ramos Viñolas kept the pressure on making the Swiss Star play great offense and defense. Roger came out with the win 6-2, 7-5 which may have seen routine but in 2015, the Spaniard had pulled off the upset to take Roger out early.

“I was thinking about it. Watched highlights. Remember how it felt. I had my chances. I won many more points that time than I lost, so I should have actually won that match,” Roger said. “But he did very well there and things turn very quickly here in Shanghai. Of course that got my attention. I know I also played him another time where I beat him very easily in Wimbledon, but [it] doesn't matter what happened there. Shanghai, in that match, to play him again in the same circumstances, basically I knew [he] could be dangerous, and that's why I'm very pleased how I was able to control the match out there today.”
September 22, 2019 -- Geneva, Switzerland

Roger remained undefeated in Laver Cup play today as he helped his team take the win against Team World.

It came down to the wire with the deciding match and in the end, Europe was just too dominant.

”I’m very excited. What an atmosphere and what a match. I’m thrilled that I was able to give something back to the team after a tough Match Tie-break (in doubles) earlier today,” Roger said. “Team Europe has been amazIng. They’ve fought so hard and played so well.”

The Laver Cup will come back to the United States and be played in Boston for 2020.
September 19, 2019 -- Geneva, Switzerland

Roger will be joined with members of Team Europe and Team World on Friday in Geneva to kick off the 2019 Laver Cup. All week he has been prepping for this fun, competitive team competition.

“It's been energetic, it's been thrilling, it's been exciting. The two teams have finally clashed and seen each other. We are all ready to go,” Roger said.

Team Europe: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Fabio Fognini, Roberto Bautista Agut

Team World: John Isner, Milos Raonic, Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov, Jack Sock, Taylor Fritz, Jordan Thompson

Scoring:
Both singles and doubles are best-of-three sets with ad scoring. The third set is a 10-point Match Tie-break.

Points:
Each match win will be worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday and three points on Sunday. If points are tied at 12-all on Day 3, a doubles set with ad-scoring and a tie-break will decide the Laver Cup champion. The winning team must reach 13 points.

Players:
Each player will play at least one singles match during the first two days. No player will play singles more than twice during the three days. At least four of the six players must play doubles. No doubles combination can be played more than once, unless for the Decider on Day 3, if points are 12-all. Match-ups will be determined prior to the first match each day through the exchange of lineup cards by the captains.
September 3, 2019 -- NYC, NY

Roger took the court in his Quarterfinal match against a player he had an undefeated record against, Grigor Dimitrov. After capturing the first set in front of an always fiery New York crowd, seems appeared to be standard with Roger in control of the match.

But Grigor turned things around and was able to tie things at a set all. As things battled on, it became evident as the match continued Roger was not 100% and something was visibly off with the third seed.

After dropping the fourth set and pushing to a deciding 5th, Roger left the court for medical treatment. When he came back, he just wasn't executing his shots and making uncharacteristic mistakes.

Grigor Dimitrov beat the 3rd seed 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the Semifinals of the US Open.
